"The Future of Public Transport - In Pursuit of Zero Emissions"
Jaimie Levin is the Director of Alternative Fuels Policy and Marketing for the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit), which carries 227,000 people each weekday (67 million people annually) on 105 transit lines in the San Francisco Bay Area. AC Transit primarily serves 13 cities in the East Bay, including Oakland and Berkeley, and operates commuter bus service across three transbay bridges to San Francisco and Peninsula cities.
There are a few new transportation laws in effect with the new year which will hopefully move us in a safer and more sustainable direction:
I just couldn't resist posting this video. Enjoy.
If anyone is interested in helping us do this type of thing to envision Bus Rapid Transit up here in Humboldt, please get in touch.
A lot of blame has been laid at the feet of "big oil" for artificially inflating the price of gas. Well, oil companies in the refinining business are starting to get squeezed between the high price of oil on one side, and the threat of demand destruction on the other side. The resulting tight margin means that if oil continues to increase in price as it has in the last five years, the price of gasoline has nowhere to go but up, and much more steeply than it has so far.
Wow! Talk about taking a proactive step in eduacating law enforcement and, indirectly, the public. What a great example the San Francisco Police Department is setting! One step forward in Sharing the Road. Way to go SFPD and SF Bicycle Coalition!
Five million dollars per year.
That is what California
appropriates for bicycle infrastructure. It might sound like a lot of
money, but not when you consider that Caltrans is working up the
Environmental Impact Report for a frivolous $60 million project to save
motorists 60 seconds on their trip to Eureka.
Compare that with $5
million for bicycle infrastructure spread over the most populous state,
a state that has plenty of dangerous places to bike, and you can see
the imbalance in our transportation policy.
