The Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG) will soon decide whether the county will focus future development in existing communities or convert more farmland and timberland to suburban sprawl.

Unmet Transit Needs Hearing

The annual unmet transit needs process is the time when jurisdictions identify reasonable transit and alternative transportation needs that could be met. Typically, a determination is made that there are no needs that are unreasonable to meet, and a chunk of Transportation Development Act (TDA) funding, the primary source of transit operating funds, is reallocated to the road maintenance budget. Last year the County spent nearly $1 million of TDA funds on road maintenance.
To their credit, the county has gradually been shifting more of that money into various transit projects, including a planned launch of transit service in Southern Humboldt this year.
We need to support the County’s efforts towards better expenditure of these funds, and more remains to be done if we are to have more frequent and well-coordinated service in the Humboldt Bay micropolitan area.

Caltrans will host an "Open House," Wed., 5-7pm at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka to display drawings of new proposed "modified alternatives" for the 101 Eureka Arcata Corridor Improvement Project and invite public comment. We're not sure if there will be a hearing, or just comment cards.
