Focusing our plan
A new spring semester
Green-Wheels HSU, advocating for alternative transportation solutions on campus
This semester is bringing the return of more policy oriented work by Green-Wheels HSU. We are currently partnering with a group of planning students on campus who are developing a sustainability plan for their senior practicum. This document will be given to the sustainability coordinator and presented to the president of HSU as an official planning document for the university. Along with this long term work is an effort to add material promoting the Jack Pass to the Humboldt Orientation Program (HOP) that all incoming students are required to attend.
What are some of our goals for this project?*
We hope to create a plan that gets adopted into the next revision of the master plan and is followed!
We want to improve commutability (yeah it's a word) to pedestrians and cyclists through dedicated pathways and routes.
We'd like to expand the BLC, see it receive funding, and have a bicycle loan plan established on campus.
*Plus many more aspects for this project
To stay in the loop check back to the HSU projects page from time to time.
A google group is set up for discussion on this project. Email Mattschi@gmail.com to get added. Viewing is free. http://groups.google.com/group/sustainableplan-hsu

The start of the new year has brought us new leadership and as a result, excitement in being part of the change. At greenwheels we looked forward to the start of this semeter and taking on some new projects. We are currently discussing possibilities that involve freeing the center of campus from traffic and creating more community space. Without a voice calling for something different, the 30-40 year plan at HSU might result in more of the same; architecture that caters to automobiles and not people, and the lack of planning for alternative transportation. Join us in creating a plan for action this semester! |
