NEC Negotiations
Greg is arguing on our behalf to get a deal of 7% of our grant money for inclusion under NEC’s non-profit status. Once we get this ironed out, we could start meeting there instead of Chris’ house.
Advisory Board Selection
We are selecting an advisory board to advise our activities with the NEC, although the NEC board of directors will have legal oversite. So far, we have no’s from Harmony Groves, Mike Wilson, Jen Rice and Steve Hackett. Dan Ihara is probably moving. We have yes’s from Michael Winkler and Maggie Gainer. Suggested recruits at this time are Oona Smith, Bob Ornelas, and Sungnome Madrone. Chris will contact Oona, Aaron will talk to Bob, and I can’t remember who was goin to talk to Sungnome, but I will look into it.
Newsletter
So far we have 3 articles: a spat between Aaron A. and his lazy neighbor, Winkler’s travel log and Transportation Equity, by Aaron. Chris has promised one on carshare cooperative concept, and how BRT would work in Humboldt County. Tommy was pressed into service as Bike Touring Editor, to collect vignets of recent tours by the hardcorps green wheelers. August 1st was set as the tentative deadline for the next issue. Sending in stuff sooner is always good too!
Member Recruitment
We have to branch out and recruit more people from the wider community. Shannon had mentioned that the Trail Hearing would have been a great opportunity to make folks aware of us and rope some people in, but we did not bring any materials to distribute. We talked about distributing the newsletter more widely, South to Fortuna and North to McKinleyville, at the least. Then we had three decent ideas!:
1) Farmers Market Greaseman (short term):
Chris said he would check with the North Coast Growers Association to see if we are allowed to do this (I don’t see why not). The key will be to have bike repair guys and gals AND outreach people to do some schmoozing and distribution of materials.
2) Enter Kinetic Sculpture Race (next year):
Maybe Bill Burton has a frame we could use. We could have a model of a Hybrid RTS bus, and call it “Super Hybrid BUSters.” Seems like a little RTS sponsorship might be possible, since we would raise their profile. We could even have a puny Prius broken in half and hung up on the front of the bus.
3) Green Wheels bike clothing. Chris will look into orders from Aussie, which supplied his college racing team.
Bike Plan
Aaron has made the changes suggested by Tom Dewey, and will submit it.
Next Week’s Meeting:
