I went to the courthouse this morning to testify on the county letter to the NCRA commenting on their Rail-With-Trail draft guidelines, and had a little run-in with security.
It seems that forks are not permitted in the County Courthouse anymore. They found one as my bag went through the metal detector and told me so.
"You can take it back outside and leave it in your car," one of the guards said.
"I took the bus here. Is there any way you can hold on to it, and I can come pick it up on my way out?"
"No we can't do that. You could go outside and leave it in your car, and then come back in."
"I took the bus here. I don't have a car outside. Should I just take it and leave it on the sidewalk and see if it's still there when I come back out?"
"Uh....you could leave it in your car. Can I take the fork out of your bag?"
"Sure, it's in the back pocket."
"O.K., so what should I do with this?"
"Can you hang on to it for me until I come back out?"
"No we can't do that."
"Then I guess you'll have to confiscate it. Thanks"
Dang, that was part of a matching set. Maybe I should have gone back outside and left it on the sidewalk. I'll be sure to keep a spoon instead of a fork in my bag from now on. Hopefully that's allowed.
At least the Supes did a good job of including language in their letter regarding the NCRA operator's ability to veto trail proposals. Definitely more important than that fork.
