General Public Quail Serivce is less than one week away

Starting next week, Tuesdays, any SoHummer can catch the bus to Fortuna or Eureka (depending on which week) to get yer errands done without blowing a lot of cash on gas.  If there is enough interest in this service, it could be expanded.  It's up to SoHummers now.

Here is a FAQ from HTA with the details:

FHWA Feb 2003

How does it work? The Quail Bus makes a trip to the north every Tuesday. The first and third Tuesdays the bus goes into Eureka. The second and fourth Tuesdays the bus goes into Fortuna.

Where do I catch the bus? HTA has established two stops in Southern Humboldt for general public passengers who would like to ride the bus to Eureka or Fortuna. In Garberville the bus stop will be in the parking lot of the Ace Hardware store. In Redway the bus stop will be in the parking lot of the Redwoods Rural Health Center. These parking lots are owned by private parties who have been generous enough to let our passengers park there while they are off riding the bus. Please be very respectful of these businesses and their property.

When does it leave? Because the Quail Bus is a door-to-door system for the senior citizens the time the bus will leave Garberville and Redway will vary a little. Our best estimate at the stops is:

Garberville - Ace Hardware parking lot departs at 8:45 a.m.

Redway - Redwoods Rural Health Center departs at 8:55 a.m.

Where will it go? The Quail Bus will take you to 2 locations in Eureka (Bayshore Mall & Downtown)

and 2 locations in Fortuna (Redwood Village Shopping Center & Downtown).

How do I catch the bus back to Southern Humboldt? The bus will leave at approximately the following times:

Eureka - Downtown bus departs at 3:15 p.m. (5th & H Streets bus stop)

Bayshore Mall bus departs at 3:30 p.m. (By the Food Court)

Fortuna - Redwood Village Shopping Center bus departs at 3:00 p.m. (Bus shelter by Safeway)

Downtown bus departs at 3:30 p.m. (11th & N Streets bus stop)

What does it cost? The trip to Eureka will cost $3.50 each way, to Fortuna will cost $3.00 each way.

What else do I need to know? The bus driver cannot wait for you. In order to catch the Quail Bus to Eureka or Fortuna you must be at the bus stop at the designated time. You must have the correct amount of money, the driver does not make change. The Quail Bus’s first priorities are the senior citizens and disabled community of Southern Humboldt. Therefore, seating for the general public will be first come, first served. If there is not enough room for everyone the seniors will have priority.
