New roads for sprawl in South Eureka

Proposed road connecting Humboldt Hill with Tomkins Hill Road

Plans are in the works for 3 new roads in South Eureka, facilitating more residential exurban sprawl to compound worsening traffic on Boradway and other major roads leading into downtown. These include a new road east of Elk River Road, and two new roads on Humboldt Hill, including the one above which would connect Humboldt Hill with Tomkins Hill Road, facilitating sprawl on the hillside overlooking the CR Campus. Most of the pasture to the right of the diagonal line in the image above is slated for residential development that this road would facilitate.

The three roads are in the coastal zone, so the County must apply to amend the Local Coastal Plan in order to move forward with the projects. Unfortunately, There seems to be a lot of auto-mobile dependent development moving forward while we wait for the General Plan Update process to move forward. Hopefully we won't get too sprawled out before we have a chance to get on a better track.

The Planning Commission will hear public comment on these proposed Local Coastal plan Amendments on Thursday, 6pm in the Supervisors Chambers.
