RE: Cycling Old Arcata Rd IS Hazardous!

Last week I mailed you a letter regarding the bicycle procession on 101 that occurred on Friday, 18 November. In that letter I made reference to the safety of bicycling between Arcata and Eureka. I regret that my assessment of Old Arcata Road was proved correct. On that same day, Friday 18 November, a fellow cyclist was hit by a car on Old Arcata Road and hospitalized (below).

For your information.

Sincerely,

Greetings,

I think everyone should know that John Dostal was hit by a motorist on Old Arcata Road on Friday, November 18th. John is a club member and former President of the club. He is at St. Joseph hospital recovering from his injuries, which include multiple abrasions, cuts, bruises, broken ribs, and a collapsed lung. I saw him today and he is in good spirits, but he is in a lot of pain. Let's all wish him a speedy recovery!

Jim Robbins
