Meet Jody of Mobile Medicine

Please meet Jody of Mobile Medicine in Bellingham, WA. Does it get any better then having a nurse practitioner or ARNP by bicycle?! I thought this was a very inspiring, and just wanted to share with our readers! This is a wonderful story, Jody - near or far, thank you so much for offering medicine by bicycle.

(Chris) 1. What inspired you to offer medical care, and treatment by bike?

(Jody) I honestly just wanted to ride my bike :) Also, though, I do believe that people in positions of leadership have a responsibility to model the healthy lifestyle that they preach.

(Chris) 2. In Bellingham how do you like the design of city streets?  Has the city incorporated complete streets designs to make riding bicycles welcoming, or is it a challenge?

(Jody) Bellingham has really been working hard to become more bike friendly, several major routes have recently been redone to include lovely bike lanes. There is definitely a supportive culture here for bicyclists.

(Chris) 3. Does medical house calls by bicycle pose any limitations, or challenges that can frustrate you?   Or do rewards outweigh the negatives?

(Jody) The rain takes some getting used to, some serious pep talks to head out into the wind and rain, but once I'm out it's fine! There are quite a few hills around the area as well. I really wouldn't be able to navigate them pulling my trailer if I didn't have the electric assist bike...That makes it much more doable. Rewards definitely outweigh the negatives though. The other issue I battle in my brain is justifying the time it takes on a bike versus what I can do in a car. Currently looking at doing some restructuring of my business to make this more possible.

This is just really awesome Jody, and thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
